SERVICES

Playground Inspections: Public Parks, Schools, HOA parks

  • THOROUGH INSPECTIONS: RAISE offers thorough school playground inspections performed by experienced inspectors. As a member of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), we are certified as playground inspectors using both the ASTM and CPSC standards.

    • The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standard for playground safety is the national safety benchmark, along with several American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards related to playground performance and safety.

    • CPSC compliance requires daily and routine inspections that can be done by staff or facility maintenance personnel along with a more detailed annual inspections completed by certified inspectors. RAISE inspectors are nationally certified to inspect all playground equipment.

  • UNBIASED REPORTS: Newly installed playgrounds should be inspected by an independent inspector that has nothing to gain by approving or finding issues. RAISE Safety Inspections does not repair or install, promising an unbiased report.

Note: A proper inspection program does not negate the need for constant proper supervision.

Playground Inspections: Home/Residential

  • RAISE inspects newly-installed equipment at private residences and highlights issues that do not conform to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standards regarding the installation of backyard equipment.

    • Although CPSC does not offer a certification for private residence standards, RAISE inspectors are closely familiar with the standards.

Note: an inspection program does not negate the need for constant proper supervision.

smoke detector inspection

Landlords must have their smoke detectors tested annually, along with annual battery replacements. Devices require replacing every 10 years. The laws are changing to require a smoke detector in each bedroom. RAISE will change batteries, replace outdated detectors according to state or local codes and test all detectors for proper operation. This service is focused on landlords, however it can also be provided for your primary residence.

WHY?

Why would you want inspections done on a regular basis?

  • Insurance: Insurance underwriters sometimes offer savings for proactive programs that include independent inspections.

  • Safety: Prevent injuries and accidents.

  • Cost Savings: It usually costs less to face an injury and/or lawsuit if you can show a routine maintenance/inspection program.

  • Standards: Playground standards developed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) include annual detailed inspections along with the daily and routine inspections that should be done by local staff. CPSC is considered the national standard of care for playground equipment.

  • Schools, local parks, and HOAs can all be negatively affected by one significant incident involving an injured child. Children learn by “cause & effect” on playground equipment. The standards and guidelines of safe playgrounds do not strive to eliminate injuries, but rather reduce the severity of injuries.

  • Home playground equipment is not expected to conform to the same standard as public equipment, but it does have standards that should be followed. Each fastener, nut, bolt, etc. has a specific location and installation direction along with other installation requirements. It is probable that the person assembling the set may not realize the importance of following the instructions precisely.
